GENUS 8720 is a nuclear reactor designed primarily for research purposes. It is a pressurized water reactor (PWR) that can be used to irradiate a variety of materials, including neutron-absorbent water and steel, for use in dosimetric studies. 8720 is the middle-sized reactor of GENUS family, and it benefits from the same precision and control technology found in its smaller and larger counterparts. In addition to its own power and control systems, this reactor can be used with GENUS 8000 family of control systems for even greater levels of accuracy and safety. GENUS 8720 has three main sections: a pressure vessel, a control equipment, and an irradiation tower. At the heart of 8720 is its pressure vessel, which stands just over nine meters tall and has a diameter of more than seven meters. This vessel houses the reactor's internal core that is composed of pellets of zirconium hydride fuel, and includes the pressure vessel's internals - the core internals, control rod assemblies, and instrumentation systems. The control system is a submersible computer-controlledp unit consisting of a control panel and a robust machine of valves and pumps. This tool is designed to keep the reactor operating safely and efficiently by monitoring the reactor's operation, regulating the reactor's power output, controlling the water flow rate, and providing operator control of the reactor in the event of an emergency. The irradiation tower is located on the opposite side of the vessel from the pressure vessel, and is used to hold experimental samples that are irradiated by neutrons from the reactor core. Generally, the samples are placed in cylindrical containers, called "targets" and then raised or lowered into the reactor core using a CAE. GENUS 8720 is designed to provide a safe, efficient, and reliable research environment, with reliable data collection and accuracy. With its robust designs, low power draw and excellent safety features, 8720 is one of the most reliable and robust reactors on the market.
