JEL / JUSUNG Eureka 2000 is an integral pressurized water reactor (iPWR) that produces electric power. It is a second-generation reactor developed by the Korea Atomic Research Institute (KAERI), JEL Engineering Co., Ltd. and Engineering and Quality Assurance, Ltd. (ENQA). The reactor features a small core size, a two-loop design, as well as enhanced safety systems and enhanced safety features. JEL Eureka 2000 has a rated thermal output of 645 MWth and an electrical output of 204 MWe. The core consists of 81 fuel assemblies and has a height of just 3.7 m. It is designed with a novel two-loop design, which is both safe and efficient. The primary loop of the reactor consists of a pressurizer, steam generator, recirculating pumps, and a low and high pressure turbine. The secondary loop has a reactor core, containment building, and control systems. The safety systems of JUSUNG Eureka 2000 include redundant safety systems, multiple monitors and control systems, as well as a Core Damage Prevention Equipment (CDPS). The CDPS prevents core damage in the event of an emergency and is designed to operate without relying on operator intervention. In addition, the reactor has enhanced safety features such as two independent cooling systems, secondary loop isolation valves, and the Emergency Power Transfer System (EPTS). The EPTS transfers emergency power to the plant in the event of a power failure at the main site. Eureka 2000 is also equipped with several emergency diesel generators, emergency cooling systems, and nuclear instrumentation. This emergency cooling unit is designed to provide additional cooling if the core temperature reaches a certain threshold. The nuclear instrumentation is used to monitor and control the reactor parameters during normal operation and emergency shutdowns. In conclusion, JEL / JUSUNG Eureka 2000 is an integral pressurized water reactor that has a small core size, a two-loop design, redundant safety systems, emergency cooling systems and an emergency power transfer machine. Its enhanced safety features and safety systems make it one of the safest nuclear reactors in the world.
