SINGULUS / STANGL TIMARIS (STIM) reactor is an advanced, continuous-generation nuclear reactor designed by German engineering firm STANGL Technologies in collaboration with reactor designer SINGULUS Technologies. Combining the latest in nuclear technology and safety procedures, the STIM reactor provides efficient, reliable, and secure power generation solutions. At its core, the STIM reactor utilizes a pebble-bed reactor configuration, with pebbles, each containing hundreds of particles of fuel, being continuously taken in from the top and passing through a gas-filled reaction chamber at a consistent speed. As the pebbles pass through the chamber, the temperature of the fuel is slightly increased, which accelerates the nuclear fission process. This reaction produces heat, which in turn is used to heat up a circulating medium, such as water or helium. This heated medium is then used to drive a turbine, providing power to an electrical generator. The power generated by the reactor is both clean and efficient; the reactor has an average electrical efficiency of over 65%. Additionally, the pebble-bed design of the reactor allows for a high level of passive safety, with built-in safeguards preventing a runaway reaction in the event of a power or temperature increase. Apart from the high efficiency and safety ratings, the STIM reactor is also noted for its flexibility; the design allows for a variety of configurations, such as a water-cooled, high-temperature gas-cooled, or even a steam-cooled design, depending on the plant's needs. The modular design of the reactor also allows it to be easily maintained and upgraded, allowing for easy replacement of components and modules as technology advances. Finally, the STIM reactor is also noted for its low construction cost, compared to other nuclear reactors. This cost factor, along with the reactor's other advantages, has made it highly popular among energy producers, with many plants around the world already using STIM reactor technology for their power-generation needs. In fact, it is estimated that by 2022, the STIM reactor will be the most widely used commercial reactor in the world.
