TES Challenger HTI is a commercially available advanced helium-cooled, graphite-moderated nuclear reactor designed for high temperature industrial (HTI) applications, such as hydrogen and synthetic fuel production, hydrogen storage, and advanced nuclear power conversion systems. Challenger HTI reactor's core is designed to operate at temperatures up to 1000 degrees Celsius and at power outputs up to 3 MW. The core is composed of a combination of graphite and tritium-enriched uranium fuel pellets. This combination allows for highly efficient operation with very low criticality potential. Additionally, the graphite moderator lengthens the mean free path of the neutrons, leading to increased opportunities for in-core and out-of-core fuel recycling. The fuel pellets are encased in hexagonal graphite blocks, which are arranged in a cylindrical shape. This allows for the geometry of the fuel to be uniformly distributed, increasing efficiency and fuel burnup. This design also allows for the moderator and fuel blocks to be easily replaced, making refueling and maintenance quick and easy. The reactor's cooling system utilizes liquid helium, which has a boiling point of -269 degrees Celsius and excellent heat transfer properties. Helium also has a very high neutron absorption, shielding the fuel and moderator from absorbed neutrons and reducing radiation exposure. TES Challenger HTI reactor operates on proven technology and is designed to be both reliable and cost-effective. Its design allows for safe and efficient operation in a variety of high temperature industrial applications, without needing expensive research and development. As such, Challenger HTI reactor is quickly becoming a popular choice for customers looking for a safe and efficient path to energy production.
