THOMAS SWAN 19x2 GAN is a reactor that is designed to be used within high temperature applications. It is made from graphite and nickel-based alloys and is able to withstand high temperatures and stresses due to its unique design and construction. The reactor consists of a central graphite column encased in a nickel-based alloy double wall containing a thermal insulation material. The exterior of the reactor is further insulated by a 12cm layer of asbestos material. The central core of the reactor is then divided into two compartments with an inlet and outlet. The primary function of the reactor is to provide a reaction chamber of controlled atmosphere and controlled temperature, in which a safe and controllable reaction can be achieved. The reactor construction also allows for a modular design, allowing for up to nine reaction chambers. A cooling equipment is also part of the reactor's construction, consisting of 9 individual cooling circuits, each individually powered by an electrically driven pump. Along with the cooling system, an inert gas is injected near the reactor's outlet with the aim of avoiding thermal shock. The cooled gas is then directed through two 17 mm pipes, one of which is used for liquids and one for gases, located in each of the two compartments. The reactor also includes a decontamination unit, integrated in the cooling circuits, for removing any undesired contaminations during the reaction process. The machine consists of two electrochemical cells containing reactive materials that are driven by a low voltage electrical current. 19x2 GAN reactor is an extremely complex device, capable of operating at very high temperatures and pressures, whilst also providing a safe and modular structure for conducting high-temperature reactions. A combination of cooling circuits, decontamination systems and thermal insulation materials all contribute to providing safe and controlled operations within the chamber.
