THOMAS SWAN 19x2 is a light water reactor designed for small modular power plants. The unique and compact design of the reactor allows the use of a single-circuit configuration. 19x2 reactor is a low-power pressurized water reactor (PWR) that is capable of generating up to 10 megawatts of electricity. THOMAS SWAN 19x2 reactor is powered by enriched uranium fuel that is made up of 1.5 mm thick clad UO2 pellets with a 3.4% enrichment level. Theses fuel pellets are wrapped in a zirconium alloy cladding and loaded into horizontal fuel channels located in the reactor core. The reactor core has a width of 4.4m and is suspended in a pool of water in the containment vessel. The reactor core is surrounded by a biological shield made of Portland cement reinforced with steel. The critical combination of the reactor's fuel, enriched uranium, and the pool of cooling water, provides both safety and the ability to generate power. As the uranium is fissioned and the water heated, a coolant is pumped from the containment vessel and heated to provide power. This power is then converted to electricity through the use of a steam generator and a turbine generator. 19x2 is a great choice for small modular power plants for its various safety systems and automated processes. The reactor vessel is equipped with an array of safety systems designed to shut down the operation automatically and prevent uncontrolled radiation levels. In addition, the core is surrounded by neutron absorbing control rods and an array of monitoring systems that are interlinked to a main control console to ensure optimal performance and safety. THOMAS SWAN 19x2 reactor is also designed with a corrosion resistant alloy and a pool of ruthenium-antimony (RU-ANT) solution to protect against corrosion that can damage the core and fuel assemblies. In addition, the reactor core is equipped with a graphite thermal reactor blanket that captures neutron radiation and releases heat energy in the form of natural circulation air. Finally, 19x2 reactor comes with safety features to ensure that it can contain any incidents that occur, such as a power surge or radiation leak. The unique design and features of THOMAS SWAN 19x2 reactor, makes it an ideal choice for small modular power plants. It is compact, efficient, and can be safely operated with minimal personnel requirements compared to other reactors of the same size. All these features make 19x2 an excellent choice for small modular power plants that require a reliable source of power.
