PHILIPS EM420 is a scanning electron microscope (SEM) that utilizes a focused beam of electrons to obtain detailed images of objects. This microscope is capable of magnifying an object as much as 150,000 times its actual size, allowing for the detailed imaging of extremely small objects. The microscope utilizes a thermoelectronic gun to accelerate electrons and create the electron beam. The gun is composed of a filamental, a generator of negative voltages, and an anode/cathode lens system. The filamental is heated by passing an electric current through it, and the electron emission is focussed by the anode/cathode lens system. The electrons scan the sample surface in a raster pattern to obtain a full image. The emitted electrons interact with the sample surface in different ways. Secondary electrons are emitted and collected by a detector, which converts the signals into a signal on a monitor that the user can observe. Photons are also emitted, which can penetrate the sample and excite an electron to emit a fluorescent signal that is detected and used to create a contrast on the image. PHILIPS EM405 has several features that make it an excellent device for studying various materials and objects. It is equipped with a variable pressure system and a gaseous condensation chamber that allow a vacuum environment without artifacts on the imaging. The microscope can also automatically manage and align when switching between different objectives, reducing the time it takes to switch between imaging modes. The instrument is an excellent tool for researching and studying a variety of materials and objects. It can be used for research on semiconductors, metals, polymers, ceramics, catalysts, aerosols, thin film analysis, surface and topography studies, and more. The images obtained and analysis obtained from PHILIPS EM 420 provide valuable data for industry and science.
