PHILIPS / FEI Quanta 200 is an advanced scanning electron microscope (SEM) that is capable of providing a high resolution imaging of surfaces, particles, and films. The system is designed for quick and easy access to submicron structures and nano-structures, and is suitable for both research and industrial applications. The high resolution is achieved through the use of an ultra-high intensity electron beam that can reach a maximum intensity of 1.2 mA/cm². The beam is steered and focused dynamically, allowing for a variety of parameters that can be used to accurately control the imaging parameters. This beam is used in both scanning and imaging modes, combined with a 9-position motorized stage mechanism to ensure accurate scanning and imaging of user-defined fields of view. FEI Quanta 200 is capable of creating detailed elemental maps of specimens using its energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). This can be used to identify and quantify the composition of different samples at the submicron or even nanometer scale. Additionally, digital image processing is available to enhance the images, which can be saved either locally or sent over the internet for remote analysis. PHILIPS Quanta 200 can also function as a low-voltage scanning electron microscope (LV-SEM), making it highly suitable for analyzing fragile specimens such as thin membranes and biologics. The LV-SEM mode will automatically reduce the accelerator voltage when set within the desired range, providing a softer electron beam with a longer mean free path that will result in less sample damage. Finally, Quanta 200 is fully air-tight and utilizes an electronic beam column shield and an omega-filtering technique to reduce the risk of contamination. This ensures the integrity of specimens and provides reliable, repeatable results for a variety of imaging and microanalytical applications.
