Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) With FEG 2006 vintage.
PHILIPS / FEI Quanta 600 Mark I is a scanning electron microscope (SEM) used for imaging and analyzing a variety of materials, from metals to fragile biological samples. It is driven by a high-performance, variable-pressure dual lens equipment with a large field of view and resolution up to 300 nm. This high-resolution capabilities enables nanometer-scale analysis of specimens. FEI Quanta 600 Mark I uses a quad-pole, field-emission gun and a transmission (TEM) electron-optical column to form high-energy electrons. This produces a highly-focused beam of electrons which is then scanned across the sample surface. The image is formed by detecting and interpreting electron-backscattered differences or secondary electrons in a Virtual Imaging Detector. The main components of PHILIPS Quanta 600 Mark I include its vacuum chamber, sample manipulator, chamber interface, optics column, and heat exchanger. The chamber is equipped with an in-vacuum sample manipulator to allow precise positioning and control of a sample. The chamber interface includes a gas inlet, gate valve, and a dry scroll differential pumping system for cooling and drying the sample. This unit helps to prevent trouble due to water vapor contamination which could lead to image defects. The optics column consists of an electron gun, condenser lenses, objectives lenses, digital scanning machine, electrostatic objective lens corrector, and a gun selection. With its advanced electrostatic objective lens corrector, Quanta 600 Mark I is able to significantly improve imaging resolution and achieve extremely accurate, high-quality imaging results. In addition, PHILIPS / FEI Quanta 600 Mark I features a unique heat exchanger which quickly extracts sample heat caused by electron irradiation. This helps to prevent sample damage and preventicing any inefficient cooling time. FEI Quanta 600 Mark I is capable of producing spectacular imaging results with its powerful resolution, focus, optics, and various enhancements. It is used for various imaging and analysis applications, including 3D tomography, imaging of topography and morphology, biosample imaging, imaging to reveal microstructure, nanoparticle detection, and characterization of materials.
