DISCO DFD 6340 is a high-speed, automated scribing and dicing equipment (also referred to as 'scribe and break') developed by DISCO Hi-Tec Electronics, Japan. Commonly used in materials research and processing such as LCD glass substrates and semiconductor wafers, the system performs precise scribing and dicing of brittle materials. The unit operates with a horizontally-mounted scribing unit composed of two 10,000 rpm spindle motors mounted on opposing sides of a template holder assembly that is adjustable in X, Y and Z axes. Each motor is mounted on a linear stage and precision alignment of the two motors is performed through precise localised movement of the spindle motors by way of a micrometer. Moreover, each motor can be independently adjusted in gaps ranging from 0.05 to 0.7 mm for differing materials, such as quartz and silicon, to ensure precise scribing width between cuts. Displaying vertical orientation, the template holder assembly can rotate up to 270° to provide multidirectional scribing. Furthermore, the motor speed can be precisely controlled during operation according to the material being processed. Finer material applications require slower speeds, while thicker materials can have faster motor speed while scribing. Using pressure sensors, the template holder assembly can also be precisely jogged using a joystick according to the operator's needs. For example, this can provide a manual skew adjustment to ensure the cutting blades contact the substrate uniformly. After the material is scribed, manually or through use of the joystick, a user-definable air pressure regulator initiates either a single or multi-directional break of the scribed material. This pressure-regulating device can be adjusted to provide just enough pressure to break the substrate, but not so much force as to damage the material being processed. Each of the above processes can be operated through a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI). As well as providing maintenance free operations and batch processing capabilities, DISCO DFD6340 machine is also designed for easy installation and requires minimal operator training. The machine-mounted LCD monitor enables operators to view and regulate the machine's systems and processes during operation. The tool also includes self-diagnosing safety and security features, such as cut-off switches activated when the door is opened, and emergency stop buttons. Overall, DFD 6340 is a powerful scribing and dicing asset with a wide range of applications. Its high precision and accuracy along with user friendly operation makes it an ideal tool for professional research and development, as well as industrial processing.
