A MAGNETRON Line is a type of sputtering system that falls within the class of physical vapor deposition (PVD) processes. These systems use a high-powered source of electromagnetic energy, typically referred to as MAGNETRON, to selectively sputter material in the form of a vapor onto a target surface. This energy source is contained within a vacuum chamber, through which the deposited material is then propelled by the combined force of MAGNETRON and vacuum pressure. MAGNETRON source provides a stable and repeatable sputtering process as well as high throughput, which is why it is so popular for large-scale conformal deposition and coating applications. MAGNETRON lines are also widely used in a variety of other industrial processes, such as automotive and aerospace components, and medical device components. MAGNETRON lines use a MAGNETRON power supply to generate and send the sputtered material to the substrate surface. This high-power supply generates an alternating magnetic field within the vacuum chamber, which creates a series of downward plasmas forming an electron cloud below the substrate surface. The electrons are then accelerated within the plasma by the alternating magnetic field, forming a so-called ion-induced target material bombardment. The sputtered material is then transferred onto the substrate due to the pressure applied by the electron and ion streams. The advantage of MAGNETRON sputtering is that the material transfer is relatively uniform and repeatable due to the stable energy source of MAGNETRON. In addition, the material is able to adhere well to the substrate even at high substrate temperatures. This technology is also useful because of its wide range of deposition rates - high at lower temperatures and low at higher temperatures. Overall, Line sputtering is a reliable and cost-effective coating system used widely in multiple industries for coating and thin-film deposition applications. It is capable of accurately and repeatably depositing thin layers of material onto a substrate, ensuring that the end products are of the highest quality.
