Automated research sputter coater Not currently operational.
PLASMA SCIENCES Arc is a sputtering equipment used for the deposition of thin films onto various substrates. This advanced deposition technology utilizes magnetically-enhanced argon gas to create a highly uniform sputtering process. Arc, when compared to traditional sputtering systems, is capable of producing films with unique physical and chemical properties that are suited for a wide array of industrial applications. PLASMA SCIENCES Arc consists of a chamber, cathode, and anode. The cathode is typically embedded in the reactor interior while the anode is extended outside of the chamber and contains a magnetic field coil. Argon or a mixture of argon and a reactive gas is used as the process gas. The magnetic coil generates a powerful magnetic field within the chamber which concentrates the energy of the argon ions into a small highly energetic spot. This increased energy improves sputter efficiency and helps to create high-quality films with uniform thickness. Arc can deposit thin films onto a variety of substrates including ceramics, metals, organic polymers, semiconductors, and glass materials. The films are deposited in a low-temperature environment, typically below 30C, which helps to minimize thermal effects on the substrate. Films produced with this system are highly conformal with low particle contamination which make them ideal for semiconductor and optical device production. PLASMA SCIENCES Arc is capable of depositing both conductive and nonconductive material such as oxides, nitrides, and metals. Arc offers several additional features including an automated process control unit, an integrated end-point detection machine, and robust safety interlocks. This advanced tool offers high sputter rates, uniform and consistent film deposition, and is capable of producing high-quality thin films for a variety of applications. Its low temperature deposition and its compatibility with various substrates make it an excellent choice for the production of advanced electronic and optical devices.
