GIGAMAT 3806 from Strasbaugh is a full-featured, multi-purpose wafer grinding, lapping, and polishing equipment, designed for use in cost-effective, high-precision applications. 3806 utilizes standard 6" wafer carriers for parts loading and unloading, ensuring high throughput during operation. A variety of carrier types are available, including optional vacuum hold-down for non-flat surfaces, and a jolt-free TorstenRing clamping system for flat surfaces. In addition, specialized wafer carriers are available for producible thin film lapping results. GIGAMAT 3806 utilizes a patented multi-axis motion unit to provide unsurpassed consistency and accuracy during the grinding, lapping, and polishing process. This machine employs two independent, fully-programmable, linear X- and Y-axes, along with six concurrently-controlled servo-driven heads to ensure precise results. Additionally, the tool supports in-process and final-level metrology. 3806 is powered by a high torque direct-drive motor, delivering smooth motion throughout its turning range, and helping to maintain tight process control. The asset can provide wafer runouts down to 10 μm, and grinds, lapping and polishes up to 45 μm edge-to-edge, with a 30 μm center-to-edge wafer agreement of up to 2.5 μm. The model also comes complete with a dedicated 40,000 rpm spindle drive, a precision software controlled carrier loading equipment, and a comprehensive suite of safety systems. 3806 is Windows-based, with an intuitive controls interface and easy-to-understand instruction set. The system also supports a variety of add-on features including E-blocks for grinding rate control, and a separate process monitor with extendable arms.
