KINIK BI2 wafer grinding, lapping & polishing equipment is an ultra-precision machine tool for the grinding, lapping, and polishing of semiconductor and optical wafers. BI2 series provides significant improvements to the previous generation of wafer handling systems with improved accuracy, repeatability, and uptime. The system is equipped with an automated handling unit which has the capability to move wafers between process stages quickly and accurately. The machine includes automated wafer loading, unloading and transfer and wafer alignment robots that enable precise control over the location and orientation of the wafer. The entire tool is also capable of handling wafers of up to 200mm in diameter. KINIK BI2 asset has a fully automated control model which enables simultaneous grinding, lapping and polishing. The user can set and recall specific recipes for each process, allowing the equipment to repeat a cycle with repeatable results. The system has a vacuum unit that seals each set of wafers, preventing contamination and ensuring precision results. The grinding machine can be set to any repeatable depths required, from a few microns to tens of microns. This is done with advanced chip grinding heads that can perform plunge, plunge step, and cross features. The lapping process is controlled with a combination of roller, slide and compression grinding wheels that hold the silicon wafer securely and eliminate sample run out. The tool also has a variable speed drive and adjustable stroke length that ensures precise surface finish. This asset has an integrated polishing model with two-sided abrasive belts that can generate extremely smooth surfaces. The substrate is clamped between two platens and driven by an adjustable speed motor. A water or slurry jet allows for precise surface polishing.
