CSM Calotest wafer handlers are used in semiconductor fabrication to move, align and control semiconductor wafers during production. They consist of an automatic wafer positioner supported by an angular control equipment to ensure precise alignment and manipulation of wafers. The wafer handler performs all the necessary functions of presenting, aligning, centering, orienting, patterning and processing the wafer. The handler is equipped with a wafer tray, tray sensor, detector, and matching actuators. The wafer tray is designed to fit and transport a standard sized silicon wafer, usually 200-300mm in diameter, without scratching or damaging the surface. The tray is coated with a silicone-coated film to reduce static electricity, protecting the wafer from electrostatic discharge. An attached sensor then detects the presence of a wafer on the tray and sends a signal to the angular control system. The angular control unit regulates the speed, force, and motion of the wafer with precision levels. The controller receives input signals from the tray sensor and matches the signals to the programmed motion controls and accurately positions the wafer. In this way, the controller rotates the wafer as it is moved without damaging the surface. The detector is an array of light emitting diodes and photosensors attached to the bottom of the wafer tray. It measures the distance of the wafer from the tray during positioning and transmits a signal back to the angular control machine, allowing the tool to adjust the speed and force accordingly. The wafer match actuators are located outside the wafer tray and are designed to rotate the wafer into a predetermined pattern. The actuators move the wafer in the x, y and z planes for correlating to the desired processing pattern.
