SES BW3000 wet station was designed and built with support from the National Science Foundation by the School of Engineering Sciences (SES) at the University of Maryland. The station has a cylindrical design and is a professional quality, two-part wet station specifically designed and built to measure wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, air and water temperature, humidity, and relative humidity over an extended time period. SES BW 3000 incorporates two main components, a Meteo-Wind Sensor Module (MWSM) and a Data Acquisition Computer (DAC). The MWSM is housed in a NEMA 4X, IP65 compliant enclosure with a roof mounted wind cup to measure wind speed and direction, while a pressure transducer measures barometric pressure. On the front of the enclosure multiple sensors measure air temperature, humidity, and relative humidity. Additionally, the enclosure also contains a temperature sensor to measure water temperature. All the data collected from the MWSM is sent to the DAC via a hardwired connection. The DAC stores data collected from the sensors in a buffered database in real time. The DAC is also responsible for distributed supply of power to the MWSM and for controlling the fan speed of the MWSM, allowing for accurate data collection. The DAC includes an embedded web server to communicate data to a remote location. Additionally, the DAC is equipped with a variety of communication ports for data export. It is able to output data in the following formats: RS-232 serial interface, USB, and Ethernet. BW3000 is designed to be easily transportable and involves no complicated installation requirements. All the components of the wet station are housed in a rugged transportation case that ensures protection during transit. Additionally, BW 3000 is also designed to be energy efficient, with a maximum power draw of 6 W. Overall, SES BW3000 is an experimental quality, two-part wet station that can be used for real-time data collection over an extended period of time. It is capable of providing valuable information on wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, air and water temperature, humidity, and relative humidity. SES BW 3000 is easy to transport, requires no complicated installation, and is energy efficient to operate.
